Fraud and embezzlement are known as "white collar crimes". In other words they are generally perpetrated by criminals who do not use physical threats or violence, but subtler methods such as charm, altering accounts, or hacking computer records. Insurance crime in particular can be exceedingly lucrative and therefore attractive. If you do become an insurance and fraud investigator you may be surprised at the lengths people will go to claim an insurance payout. You may investigate anything from inflated burglary claims to cases that turn out to be arson. In extreme cases you may even come across people willing to murder somebody else to claim on a life assurance policy. Crimes involving insurance and fraud are often seen as "victimless crimes". Of course what happens in reality is all of our premiums go up to cover the loss!
