While a court clerk does not have any managerial duties the work is very important for the smooth running of the court system. If you become a court clerk your day to day tasks may include preparing programs of cases to heard, obtaining information for the Judge or other court personnel, answering routine queries by telephone or correspondence, bookkeeping and accounts, record keeping, taking minutes, or even fine and bail money collection. You will need to be able to get on with people at all levels and work well within a team. While there is little managerial responsibility attached to this role, you will still need to think on your feet and be able to prioritize items within your workload.

You do not need a full bachelor's degree to become a court clerk. Many smaller local courts are willing to take on entry-level applicants with a high school education. If you wish to progress, you could benefit from holding more than a high school diploma. Maybe an associates, diploma, or certificate in a relevant subject such as administration or criminal justice. There are dedicated programs on offer, with education designed specifically for those wanting to become a court clerk. While not every employer requires a recognized qualification, most will set tests in math, written English, and keyboard skills.
