A court administrator is responsible for the smooth running of a court. If you become a court administrator, you'll find that your duties are similar in nature to many other managerial or administrative posts. You might make forecasts and plan budgets, be involved in the selection, and acquisition of equipment, or be involved in organizing maintenance schedules. You might also be involved in interviewing and recruiting staff members to join your team. While the Judge is ultimately responsible for everything related to the court, the general management and administration is delegated to the court administrator.

Since this role is mainly a management one, to become a court administrator you would benefit from management experience or education. Obviously a solid understanding of how courts and the justice system work would be very useful. One route to become a court administrator could be a degree in criminal justice with courses in administration or business. You may want to study a business degree, or public administration qualification, in which case some law courses would be beneficial for obvious reasons. To become a court administrator, you will need good organizational skills, good written and verbal communication skills, and to be thorough and concise.
